Texas has two histories, her written history of valiant victories and settlers adventures, and her oral stories or legends, often told in the evening to wide-eyed listeners. These stories have passed from generation to generation. Sometimes they have been changed a little in the telling by the individual storytellers own creative style, by fill in of a detail only hazily remembered, or by exaggeration to add emphasis. It is even possible that two versions of a tale might co-exist.
